Food and Fellowship for the Homeless

Food and Fellowship for the Homeless is a project that takes place at All Nations Ministries Baptist Church in Plymouth. It was founded by Jenny Scott and Osee Ntavuka 7 years ago where they started out with nothing but tea bags and milk for those who came along. Since, donations have enabled the project to provide a hot meal to those in need at their weekly events and since starting, they have welcomed 80 people on a regular basis to each Tuesday lunchtime event and 120 people to their last Friday of the month events.

The project focuses on young people, elderly, disabled, lone parents, asylum seekers, homeless, rough sleepers and migrant workers and it aims to bring people together from a variety of social/economic/cultural backgrounds. The weekly events offer hot, healthy meals to those who attend as well as fellowship, support and advice. 2 years ago the project started working with Devon and Cornwall Food Action who provide them weekly with boxes of intercepted food that would have otherwise been wasted that they use to produce hot, nutritious meals. The food is prepared and cooked by volunteers who come along weekly to help out and they are always looking for more to come and give a hand.

As well as a hot meal, the project offers encouragement in their job search or access to training and assistance with literacy/numeracy issues. It provides a meeting point for face to face dialogue that helps improve communication, understanding and strengthens communities allowing them to work towards bettering the lives of these individuals.
